About
What We Do
Here in Seattle at UW Formula Motorsports, we're bringing the next generation of innovation. For 37 years, our elite engineering teams have banded together to refine and build a car that's faster, sharper, and sturdier than our competition. In Michigan, we participate in Formula SAE, a collegiate student level competition, where we showcase our skills in design, business, development, and performance.
It takes a lot to design, build, test, and compete with our very own electric formula car. Which is why we need as much support as we can get. Our industry partners are what gives us the resources to be successful. They are the foundation of everything we do. Community means everything here.
As a team, we’re committed to helping each other succeed, collaborating and pushing one another to do the best we can. Working together means winning together, so we’re giving it our all. We're ready to take on the challenge. Are you?

About Our Car
Our team is building a car to go all the way.
Our electric formula car is driven by our very own members, each driver is assigned to the task that best matches their skill set. The suspension system is powered by Four Wheel Drive to allow for maximum steering precision. Each wheel is driven by our AMK inverters, reaching up to 35kw at corners. The carbon monocoque is built sturdy enough to withstand our top speeds, while being light enough to not weight us down.
We are currently developing real-time track detection and autonomous driving capabilities. Our lidar camera identifies track cones and provides steering feedback for advanced operation. Each year these innovations create a new opportunity to build something new, and learn more about how far we can push ourselves.

Our Legacy
Our Goals as an Organization
Our goals have remained the same since our team was founded in 1990. Make the best car we can. We want to demonstrate the engineering excellence at the UW, and give our members the opportunity to hone their engineering, networking, management, and leadership skills.
We fulfill this by organizing our team by administrative, mechanical, and electrical work, each with an associated Director. Sub-teams have team leads, and members are a part of both a technical and administrative team. This allows us to break down the workload, as well as give our members responsibility for their work. Everyday we work towards these goals together.
